Adventcalendar 2018 – Day 13

Christmas Baubles
Christmas Baubles

Is it day 13 already? We’re over a half way through our advents calendar, can’t believe it. This day is all about my absolutely favorite shape: a bauble! I just love round shapes and things! Sounds weird, I know! So I stop admiring this perfect shape right now and gift to you:

The Bauble Pattern

Knit in the round and if you want to follow the chart (find it down below) read it from bottom to top! You could use lace or fingering weight yarn in 2.5 mm needles (US size 2) or any other yarn with a fitting needle. I did a couple of versions with different yarn types and needle sizes and they all turned out great! That way you’ll end up with various sized baubles!

I knit the baubles on 4 DPNs, but starting on just 2 DPNs with casting on 4 sts each. (So 8 sts in total). You could also knit on magic loop (I recommend following the chart then!). When you want to knit in DPNs as well, it may be easier to follow the written instructions:

Round 1: Knit the 8 sts to the round

Round 2: Change to 4 DPNs: Knit 1, make 1 picking up, knit 1 – repeat on each DPN, so that you’ll end up with 3 sts on each DPN. (12 sts total).

Round 3: Knit the round

Round 4: Knit 1, make 1 picking up, knit 1, make 1 picking up, knit 1. repeat on each DPN, so that you’ll end up with 5 sts on each DPN (20 sts total).

Round 5: Knit the round

Round 6: Knit 1, make 1 picking up, Knit 3, make 1 picking up, Knit 1. repeat on each DPN, so that you’ll end up with 7 sts on each DPN (28 sts total)

Round 7: Knit the round

Round 8: Knit 1, make 1 picking up, Knit 5, make 1 picking up, Knit 1. repeat on each DPN, so that you’ll end up with 9 sts on each DPN (36 sts total)

Round 9 to 14: Knit the rounds

Round 15: Slip knitwise, Knit 1, Pass the slipped stitch over the knitted sts, Knit 5, Knit 2 together. repeat on each DPN, so that you’ll end up with 7 sts on each DPN (28 sts total)

Round 16: Knit the round

Round 17: Slip knitwise, Knit 1, Pass the slipped stitch over the knitted sts, Knit 3, Knit 2 together. repeat on each DPN, so that you’ll end up with 5 sts on each DPN (20 sts total)

Round 18: Knit the round

Round 19: Slip knitwise, Knit 1, Pass the slipped stitch over the knitted sts, Knit 1, Knit 2 together. repeat on each DPN, so that you’ll end up with 3 sts on each DPN (12 sts total)

Round 20: Knit the round – fill the bauble at this point with some scrap yarn or wool, or anything you want to use as filling.

Round 21: Knit 1, Knit 2 together. repeat on each DPN, so that you’ll end up with 2 sts on each DPN (8 sts total)

Round 22: Change to 2 DPNs this round: first DPN: Knit 2 together, Knit 2 together. repeat with second DPN, so that you’ll end up with 2 sts on each DPN (4 sts total).

Bind off. (I did a 3 needle bind-off).

Cut the thread, so that you can hang your new christmas decoration on your tree!

Let us know, if you have any questions!

Love, Sarah
